The Office of Children’s Issues serves as the U.S. Central Authority for the Hague Abduction Convention (Convention), an international treaty that offers a civil remedy to resolve international parental child abduction cases. In that capacity, the Office of Children’s Issues leads U.S. government efforts within the Department of State and with other U.S. government agencies to prevent international parental child abduction, assist children and families involved in these abduction cases, and promote the principles of the Convention.

If You Believe an Abduction is in Progress:

If you believe your child is being abducted internationally by another family member and has not yet left the United States, you can call the Office of Children’s Issues at any time at 888-407-4747.

If Your Child Has Been Abducted Overseas, We Can:

Give you information about various resources that may assist you in pursuing the return of, or access to, your child,
Provide you with a list of attorneys in the country where your child is located,

What is a U.S. Visa? | US Passport Application Online Apply

A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to enter the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa, which is placed in the traveler’s passport, a travel document issued by the traveler’s country of citizenship. USA Visa Waiver Program Overview | US Passport Application

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables most citizens or nationals of participating countries* to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. Travelers must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to travel and meet all requirements explained below. If you prefer to have a visa in your passport, you may still apply for a visitor (B) visa.

Under the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015, travelers in the following categories must obtain a visa prior to traveling to the United States as they are no longer eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP):
Nationals of VWP countries who have traveled to or been present in Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011 (with limited exceptions for travel for diplomatic or military purposes in the service of a VWP country).
Nationals of VWP countries who have traveled to or been present in Cuba on or after January 12, 2021 (with limited exceptions for travel for diplomatic or military purposes in the service of a VWP country).
Nationals of VWP countries who are also nationals of Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria.

How our contact center can help you depends on your travel date:

I’m traveling in 5 days or less.	I’m traveling in 6-14 days.	I’m traveling in more than 14 days.
Call 1-877-487-2778. You must have an appointment to go in person to a passport agency or center. Appointments are limited and we cannot guarantee that one will be available.	Call 1-877-487-2778. We will notify the agency processing your application of your date of travel. Please note processing times for routine applications are 10-13 weeks, and expedited applications are 7-9 weeks.	Do not call unless you applied in person or renewed by mail, and you are changing your mailing address, upgrading to expedited service, or requesting 1-2 day delivery of your completed passport.
