Grants Gov Password Change Online Step By Step Guide
Grants.gov users may change passwords using the following procedure.
- Log into your Grants.gov account.
- Click the My Account link in the upper-right corner of the Grants.gov banner.
- Click the Change Password tab.
- Enter your current password and new password. The password you choose must meet the following password requirements:
- Must contain at least eight (8) characters
- Must contain at least one (1) uppercase letter (A-Z)
- Must contain one (1) lower case letter (a-z)
- Must contain at least one (1) number (0-9)
- Must contain one (1) special character (e.g. ! @ # $ % ^ & *)
- Cannot be the same as the previous six (6) passwords
- Cannot contain dictionary words, names, or your Username
- Cannot contain common password sequences (e.g. 1234, !@#$%)
- Click the Submit button. If completed successfully, Grants.gov will display a confirmation message on the page. You will also receive an email notification of your password change.

Grants.gov users may change their email address used to manage their Grants.gov account.
- Login to your Grants.gov account.
- Click the My Account link in the upper-right corner of the Grants.gov banner.
- Click the Change Email Address tab.
- Enter the email address you would like to use to manage your Grants.gov account in the New Email Address field.
- Click the Continue button.
- Access your email account, then enter the Temporary Code field on the My Account page.
- If you do not find the email from Grants.gov, please check your Spam and Junk folders in your email account. If you did not receive the email, click the Resend Temporary Code button.
- If you need to change or correct the new email address, click the Edit button to re-enter your email address.
- Enter your account password and click the Save button. You will also receive an email notification of your email change.
Note: If an EBiz POC changes their Grants.gov email address so that it does not match the email address for the EBiz POC at SAM.gov, another Grants.gov user with the Expanded AOR role for the organization will be able to modify their system privileges.

The Change Account Details tab contains basic contact and account security information.
- Login to Grants.gov.
- Click the My Account link in the upper-right corner of the Grants.gov banner. This page will open with the Change Account Details tab open.
- Edit the applicable fields under the Contact Information section. All fields may only contain alphanumeric characters, question marks, periods, dashes, underscores, and the @ symbol. If you are updating the unique mobile phone number associated with your account, you will need to re-enter the number in a confirmation field.
- Confirm the information entered is accurate and click the Save Details button. Successfully updating your Contact Information will trigger a message that reads, “Success: Account successfully updated.”

If your Grants.gov password is linked to Login.gov, go to the My Account page in the top right corner of the Grants.gov banner and click the Change Password tab under My Account. If you have not yet linked your Grants.gov account to Login.gov, you will be given an opportunity to reset your password during the linking process.
- Click the Login.gov button on the Grants.gov login screen
- Create your Login.gov account and you will be redirected to the “Link to Grants.gov Account” page.
- Click the Forgot My Password/Unlock My Account link that is located beneath the Username and Password fields.
- Enter your username in the Username field.
- Enter the email address associated with your username in the Email Address field.
- Select how you want to receive the temporary code (via email or mobile phone) to reset your password. Users who have not added mobile number to their account profile will not see this option and will automatically receive the temporary code via their account email address.
- Click the Continue button.
- Enter the Temporary Code that was sent to the email address or mobile phone number associated with your account, then click Continue. (Note: If you do not receive the code, click the Resend Temporary Code button.)
- Enter your new password and confirm it was entered correctly by re-typing it into the New Password Confirm field.
- Click the Submit button to complete the password reset process.

grants.gov retrieve username and password
Follow the steps below to retrieve your username. – How to Retrieve a Username Associated with your Email Address
- Log into Grants.gov.
- Click the My Account link in the upper-right corner of the Grants.gov banner.
- The username will be displayed in Account Details box in the center of the screen.

The Edit link in the Actions column of the Manage Profiles tab allows you to modify the Profile Name and Job Title for a profile.
- Login to Grants.gov.
- Click the My Account link in the upper-right corner of the Grants.gov banner.
- Click the Manage Profiles tab.
- Click the Edit link in the Actions column for a specific profile.
- Edit the Profile Name field. Be sure to use a descriptive, memorable name. Each Profile Name must be unique within your account (i.e., no duplicate profile names).
- Edit the Job Title field.
- Click the Save button. Or, click the Cancel button to end the process and return to the Manage Profiles tab.

How to Register a Grants.gov Account
- Click the Register link in the top-right corner of the Grants.gov banner.
- Click the Get Registered Now button on the Register page.
- Complete the Contact Information and Account Details sections. All fields with a red asterisk (*) are required.
- Email Address – When entering an email address, please keep in mind that all correspondence with Grants.gov will be sent to that email address.
- Primary Phone Number and Mobile Phone Number – You are required to enter a primary phone number, and you have the option of adding a unique mobile phone number (US only) that can be used to reset a forgotten password. If you enter a mobile phone number, you will need to confirm the number by entering it a second time in the confirmation field.
- Username – Enter a username to log in to Grants.gov. It may only contain alphanumeric characters, question marks, periods, dashes, underscores, and the @ symbol. Usernames cannot resemble a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI), so 12-character usernames must contain one of the above special characters, or an “I” or “O”. Your username also cannot contain a space, nor can it only include numbers. Select a username you will remember. Do not write down your account information.
- Password – The password you choose must meet the following password requirements:
- Must contain at least eight (8) characters
- Must contain at least one (1) uppercase letter (A-Z)

- Must contain at least one (1) number (0-9)

- Select whether to subscribe or unsubscribe from Grants.gov Communications. The Alerts are important messages about time-sensitive or major system changes. The Newsletter features training, system enhancement updates, and other resources to help the federal grants community.
- Click the Continue button.
- Click the Send Temporary Code button, then access your email account to get the temporary code.
- Enter the temporary code you received in the email from Grants.gov into the Temporary Code field and click the Continue button.
- On the Register page under “How would you like to proceed?”
- APPLICANTS – Add an organization applicant profile or an individual applicant profile to your Grants.gov account. “Organization” means you work for an organization and apply on behalf of the organization. “Individual” means you will apply for grants on your own to receive the award directly.
- GRANTORS – Click the Continue button to log in to Grants.gov, then contact your federal agency point of contact (POC) who must initiate the grantor profile affiliation process.

Login.gov
Applicant and Grantor users are able to login to Grants.gov with their username and password after they have linked their Grants.gov account with Login.gov.
To link a Login.gov account to your Grants.gov account, click the Login.gov button and enter your Login.gov email address and password on the next screen. Next, you will be directed back to Grants.gov to login with your Grants.gov username and password and complete the account linking process.
EBiz POC Login
As of January 21, 2023 you no longer need a separate EBiz POC account. You can now access EBiz POC functions through Login.gov (see above). For more information, please read the EBiz POC Login help article.
PIV/CAC Cards
Grantors are able to login with a PIV/CAC card after it has been linked to a Grants.gov account. This login feature is not open to applicants.
To link a PIV/CAC card to your Grants.gov account, plug in your PIV/CAC card and then click the PIV/CAC button. To learn more, go to the Link to Grants.gov Account – PIV/CAC help article.
Access Management System (AMS) Credentials
HHS users may also choose to login with their Access Management System (AMS) credentials, after linking an AMS account to a Grants.gov account.
To link your AMS credentials, click the AMS button and log into the AMS system. Next, you will be directed back to Grants.gov to log in with your Grants.gov username and password and complete the account linking process.
Grants.gov Login and My Account | Grants Gov Password Change
To login to Grants.gov, click the Login link in the top-right corner of the Grants.gov banner. Select your login option, Login.gov, PIV/CAC, or AMS and follow the prompts.
If you have not yet linked your Grants.gov account to Login.gov, follow the path for “First time using Login.gov?” by clicking on the “Create an account” button. You will be given an opportunity to reset your password during the linking process.
