SNAP benefits 2024: What are the amounts for January 2024 payments?

States with higher levels of poverty typically send SNAP benefits to a greater number of families. The amount they receive will vary by state, and it depends on their income level, certain expenses, as well as other requirements.

Starting October 1 of this year, monthly payments for SNAP recipients have increased significantly. While the maximum SNAP benefit for an individual increased from $281 to $291, the net impact of this adjustment is most pronounced in households with multiple members.

USDA has introduced a revised maximum income table for these families, which will remain in effect until September 30, 2024. These amounts are the result of recent cost of living adjustments for the coming year.

Excluding Alaska and Hawaii, a family of one person can collect a maximum of $291 in monthly benefits, a family of five can collect up to $1,155, while a family of eight can collect up to $1,751. Each additional person could benefit up to $219.
